Nepal braucht Hilfe / Nepal needs your help

Mit einem sehr schweren Herzen habe ich die Nachrichten aus Nepal verfolgt – ein Land, welches von grosser Armut, mangelhafter Infrastruktur, und ineffektiver, zerstrittener Regierung gezeichnet ist, liegt nach zwei schweren Erdbeben und zahlreichen Nachbeben praktisch völlig am Boden. Die Menschen, die ich in meiner Zeit in Nepal kennengelernt habe und von denen viele zu Freunden wurden, sind mit dem Leben davongekommen, aber haben oft vieles verloren. Die Schule, an der ich für kurze Zeit gelehrt habe, ist zum grossen Teil zerstört. Insgesamt sind über 8000 Menschen gestorben, die Zahl der Verletzten ist hoch, das Ausmaß der Zerstörung unfassbar. Ich kann mir momentan nicht vorstellen, wie viele Jahre es dauern wird, bis Nepal sich erholt und alle Menschen wieder ein Dach über dem Kopf haben.

Was jetzt am meisten hilft, ist Geld. Ich möchte die Leser meines Blogs bitten, an die Menschen dort zu denken – jeder kann dazu beitragen, Einzelnen zu helfen. Ich habe in meiner Zeit in Nepal mehrere vertrauenswürdige Organisationen und Menschen kennengelernt, und ich gebe hier die Details an, mit der Bitte, zumindest einer dieser Organisationen einen Betrag zu spenden, um das Leid ein klein wenig zu lindern – mit meinem und viel wichtiger, dem herzlichen Dank der Nepalesen.

It’s with a very heavy heart that I followed the news from Nepal – a country that is plagued by poverty, lack of infrastructure and an ineffective, heavily divided government, has been brought even lower by two big earthquakes and many aftershocks. The people I’ve met during my time in Nepal and many of whom have become friends seem to all have survived, but have lost much. The school where I taught for a brief time has been mainly destroyed. In total, over 8000 people have died, many more are injured, the extend of the disaster is unimaginable. I can’t imagine right now how long it will take until Nepal has recovered and all people will at least have a roof over their head again.

What is needed most right now is money. I’d like to ask the readers of my blog to think of the people there who have so little – everybody can do something to help someone. I’ve met several reliable organisations and people in Nepal, and am listing details with an appeal to you to please donate to at least one of them to help lessen the suffering – with my and, much more importantly, the deeply felt thanks of the Nepalese people.
